

Biography
Carrie Wang, the Pipa musician and educator, member of China National Orchestra Society Pipa Committee, founder of Echo Art Center. Carrie is currently based in greater Seattle area and is active in performance and teaching. She is passionate in fusion music and works with musicians of various music style, such as Jazz, Pop, World music and orchestral. In 2022, she performed Ghost Opera by Tan Dun with Seattle Symphony musicians. In 2020 she was invited as a cast for Netflix movie The Harder They Fall.
Born in Xiamen, China, Carrie is the next generation of a musician’s family. Her mother Kunli Li is a well-known Chinese Pipa virtuoso and professor from Xiamen University. Carrie studied with Pipa master Lin Shicheng, professor Zhou Lijuan and having been brought up in the Pudong School of pipa playing, one of the most prestigious classical styles of Imperial China. Carrie is the first Chinese student, who received a Master’s Degree in music education from College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati.
Carrie won the first place of the “Ao mei tong” Cup National Pipa Competition Fujian provincial final and the second place in the national final. She was the founding member of Haiyun Chinese Music Ensemble with young teachers from Xiamen University. The album "Sound of the sea" was published by Penta’s Music Group of Indonesia.
Carrie is invited to perform all around the states, including: California, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Washington. Besides United States, Carrie was invited to perform in Indonesia and Hong Kong, Carrie directed her Pipa solo recitals in Watson Hall of College-Conservatory of Music at Cincinnati, Xiamen Gulangshu Island Music Hall in China and Music Performance Hall of University of New Brunswick in Canada.
In 2015, Carrie opened her YouTube channel and took the lead in releasing the first English-language teaching and performance videos. These videos received positive responses from Pipa fans all over the world.
王一朵,美国海韵艺术中心创办人,中国民族管弦乐协会琵琶专业委员会会员。来自音乐世家,自幼随母亲,著名琵琶演奏家、厦门大学艺术学院李昆丽教授学习琵琶。曾得到琵琶泰斗林石城先生及上海音乐学院周丽娟教授的悉心指导,承袭浦东派演奏技法。本科毕业于厦门大学艺术学院音乐系,研究生毕业于美国辛辛那提大学音乐学院,是音乐教育专业第一位获得硕士学位的中国学生。
王一朵曾获得 “澳美通杯”中国琵琶大赛福建赛区一等奖、全国总决赛银奖,并在省市各类琵琶比赛获得金奖。曾与厦门大学优秀青年教师组成海韵中乐组合,由印尼Penta’s Music Group出版专辑《Sound of the sea》。
王一朵活跃于国际舞台: 2022年受邀与西雅图交响乐团演奏谭盾作品《鬼戏》; 2020 年受邀参演Netflix电影《The harder they fall》;
多次受邀赴美国、加拿大、印度尼西亚、香港等国家地区演出,在美国辛辛那提大学沃森音乐厅、加拿大新不伦瑞克大学音乐厅及厦门鼓浪屿音乐厅成功举办琵琶独奏音乐会。足迹更是遍布美国众多州郡,如:加利福尼亚州、特拉华州、乔治亚州、马里兰州、北卡罗来纳州、俄亥俄州、宾夕法尼亚州、肯塔基州、华盛顿州等。还曾作为制作人及导演在特拉华大学、宾夕法尼亚大学、马里兰大学、维吉尼亚大学等名校举办中国艺术巡回演出。
王一朵自本科就开始进行海外传播民乐的研究和探索,曾长期作为厦门大学海外教育学院讲员为外国留学生介绍琵琶及民族乐器。曾担任编委编写《中国民族乐器之旅》,由西南师范大学出版社出版,并被多所高校作为通识类课程的教材使用。硕士论文以《如何在美国公立学校开设琵琶课程》为题进行了研究,在多所中小学进行课程实验,得出了相应的方法论一直使用并试验至今。
王一朵于2015年率先在优酷和YouTube等网络平台发布全网首个英语琵琶教学视频系列,获得了来自世界各地琵琶爱好者的强烈反响,并为泰国、匈牙利等国的学生进行在线教学。
王一朵目前常驻西雅图,活跃于各种族文化社区进行演奏及教学。与各个音乐类型的音乐家进行合作演奏,如爵士、流行乐、世界音乐等。同时与学区及著名跨国公司长期合作,进行演出、讲座及培训,如亚马逊、微软、谷歌、星巴克等。
